Sovereign Capital’s Choice Care Group acquires Excel Support Services

Choice Care Group, Sovereign Capital’s portfolio healthcare company, has acquired Excel Support Services, which provides supported living for people with learning disabilities.

Founded in 2005, Excel has grown significantly in the past few years. It operates from two regional offices in Bracknell, Berkshire and Sandwell, West Midlands.

Excel aims to support the adults and young people it cares for to live as independently as possible so they have control over their own lives.

With the acquisition of Excel, Choice, which operates 39 residential homes for adults with mental health disorder, learning disabilities and complex needs within Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, is able to deliver an enhanced care pathway.

Choice now provides services for 340 adults and young people.

Kevin Whittle, partner at Sovereign, says: “This acquisition is a great fit as both Excel and Choice have a person-centred approach. Choice now can offer individuals with complex needs and learning disabilities the full pathway of care, from residential care through to supported living. We look forward to working with management to support their continued expansion so more people can benefit from the personalised care it provides.”

Edwina Johnston, chief executive of Choice Care Group, says: “We are delighted to welcome the staff and service users of Excel Support Services to the Choice Care Group, which will enable us to extend our services for people with learning disabilities to a supported living environment. This is a very relevant and strategic acquisition for the Group and gives us a high-quality business with a good track record of growth and the integrity of the business is consistent with the Choice Care Group.’’

Debbie Collins, founder of Excel, adds: “When considering joining a larger care group, first and foremost was ensuring the group has the same commitment to providing the highest quality of care to service users. Having worked previously with some of the key staff at Choice I’m confident of their integrity and Choice places the same importance on the calibre of staff as Excel, training and developing them so they deliver the quality of care that people need. By joining this group, Excel will benefit from greater growth opportunities and I look forward to seeing Excel flourish over the coming years.”
