Aureos Capital Limited has expanded its Asia team with the appointment of Ashish Patel as Partner for Asia. Aureos is a private equity fund management company specialising in investing in small and medium sized businesses in emerging markets.
Patel spent over a decade at Intel Capital, the private equity arm of international technology company Intel, where he was Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa from 2003. He joins from AVG Technologies, the global security software company, where he was head of Strategy, Emerging Markets and Corporate Development since 2010.
He has over 15 years’ experience working with growth companies, leading investments in over 40 young businesses in both emerging and developed markets, gaining extensive strategic, operational and investment experience.
During his time at Intel, Patel led a number of highly successful investments and exits in some of Europe’s most prominent start-ups.
Sev Vettivetpillai (pictured), Chief Executive of Aureos, says: “We are delighted to welcome Ashish to the company. He has already established himself as a leading light in private equity, achieving excellent results in growing young companies in the technology sector, which is such an important growth area in many emerging economies. We are very excited to have him on board.”
“He brings with him the unique perspective of having worked both as a private equity investor, as a director of small and medium sized companies and working within a large corporate of the type that target our investee companies as trade buyers.”
Patel says: “Aureos has a great track record of investing in and growing businesses that lie outside the scope of the traditional private equity players. I am particularly attracted by Aureos’ hands on approach of working closely with its investee companies to ensure they maximise opportunities for profitable growth. This is achieved through a hugely impressive network of local offices which gives them an unrivalled understanding of the local markets that they operate in. I am looking forward to becoming part of that network.”
Patel has also held a number of non-executive directorships and advisory roles, including board positions at AVG Technologies, IP Access and RuNet (Yandex).
Prior to joining Intel, Patel was Investment Director at CDC Group plc, the emerging markets private equity investor.
Patel qualified as an accountant with Coopers & Lybrand where he was engaged with corporate finance advisory activity, mainly with large cap international businesses. He is a graduate in Economics from London School of Economics.
