Enrique Salem joins Bain Capital Ventures as managing director

Venture capital firm Bain Capital Ventures has appointed Enrique Salem as a managing director based in its Palo Alto office.

Salem will identify and lead investments in companies in infrastructure software and services across all stages of development.

He was previously the CEO and president of Symantec, a provider of security, backup and availability solutions.

"Enrique is an experienced leader, investor and operating executive in the software industry and we are thrilled to have him join Bain Capital Ventures," says Mike Krupka, co-managing partner of BCV.

"I'm a technologist at heart, and I am excited to have the Bain Capital Ventures platform behind me as we seek to partner with talented entrepreneurs to develop tomorrow's transformative companies," says Salem.  "This is an exciting time in the software industry given the massive disruption taking place across the data centre and networking segments.  I am thrilled to join an experienced team to invest in and support the truly innovative companies being formed today."

Salem brings more than 27 years of executive experience in technology and security to Bain Capital Ventures, from his early career as a software engineer to leading a venture-backed software start-up and his service as CEO of a public software company.

In addition to his management career, Salem has been an active personal investor in software companies in Silicon Valley, and currently holds seats on the board of directors of Atlassian, Clari, Cloudgenix, DocuSign, FireEye and ForeScout.

Bain Capital Ventures opened its Palo Alto office in July 2011, and now has five senior investors based in Silicon Valley.  The firm has made 21 investments in California since opening the office including Apixio, Aria Systems, Captora, Clari, Infoscout, TellApart and Wrike.
