EM specialists launch investment firm GEMCORP

GEMCORP, a new financial firm focused on investments in emerging markets, is now open for business.

Atanas Bostandjiev, formerly a partner at Goldman Sachs and more recently UK and international CEO of VTB Capital, has been joined by group of experienced emerging markets investment professionals at GEMCORP.

The firm has so far raised USD500 million from European institutional investors with a lock-up period of five years.

Bostandjiev says: “We want to position ourselves as the access point for institutional investors when it comes to investing in emerging market sovereign and private sectors. We see a significant gap where traditional financial institutions are unable to meet the growing demand from emerging markets clients for flexible and reliable debt or equity financing solutions.

Selim Basak, managing partner at GEMCORP, adds: “GEMCORP brings together a group of people with a diverse and complementary range of skills and expertise, but a shared philosophy.  Many of us have worked together in previous roles over the last eight years and we have put together this dynamic team with a strong track record and hands-on approach across origination, execution and risk management in emerging markets.”

GEMCORP, which is headquartered in London, will primarily focus on the financial services, natural resources, infrastructure and sovereign sectors. The firm will use a flexible and scalable approach when it comes to underwriting transactions using its own funds and partnering with institutional investors to provide equity, debt or hybrid capital solutions.
