Morgan Stanley AIP strengthens global PE impact investing capabilities

David Wilton is to join Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners (AIP) as a managing director with a focus on private equity impact investing.

AIP will develop a private equity impact investing programme in partnership with the Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing, which seeks to drive private capital toward investments promoting sustainable and profitable economic growth.

Wilton joins Morgan Stanley from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), where he was chief investment officer and manager of its global private equity arm. During his time at IFC, he helped build out the private equity portfolio to more than USD4 billion invested in nearly 200 funds. Previously, Wilton worked in the World Bank Pension Fund, where he managed private equity and real estate investing.

“AIP is a proud contributor to the firm’s ongoing efforts to incorporate the principles of sustainable investing across our core businesses. David has unrivalled experience at the intersection of private equity and impact investing, and this expertise, particularly in emerging and frontier markets, is an excellent complement to the wide spectrum of world-class investing capabilities we have within Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners,” says Arthur Lev, head of AIP.

“I am very excited to be joining the private equity team at Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners. The depth and quality of the team, the differentiated approach they take to creating value in the asset class, and the commitment to generating outstanding results for clients are truly exemplary,” says Wilton. “I believe AIP is uniquely positioned to deliver an innovative private equity solution to investors who want to make a measurable positive impact while still seeking to generate market-rate returns.”
