Guy Zitter joins easyProperty as non-executive director

Guy Zitter, former managing director of Daily Mail & General Trust's Mail Newspapers, has joined newly launched easyProperty as a non-executive director.

Zitter, who had been managing director of one of the UK's largest newspaper brands for 20 years, will take on an advisory role to CEO Rob Ellice and the wider team and will join other non-executive directors Eachan Fletcher, Stuart Silberg and David Thorpe.

easyProperty is the new online estate agency from easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and property entrepreneur Rob Ellice.

Zitter began his media career at the Sunday Express before joining The Mail on Sunday in 1981. Advertising director of The Daily Mail by 1989, Zitter was promoted to managing director of the paper in 1994 before becoming group managing director of Mail Newspapers in 2008, which encompassed The Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, Mail Online, Mail Ireland and the group’s stake in Mail Today (India).

In addition to his career at DMGT, Zitter has also sat on numerous boards, including those at the Evening Standard, Metro and DMG Exhibitions.

Bitter says: “Digital has the huge potential to change the estate agency landscape. Whilst a number of parties are entering the online market, what has been missing until now is a strong brand that can lead from the front.

“I have been the recipient of hundreds of business pitches requiring funding during my time at DMGT, and Rob’s proposition for easyProperty was amongst the strongest I have seen. I was impressed by Rob’s property experience, entrepreneurial spirit and passion to genuinely create change within the property sector, so I am pleased to come on board.”

Ellice says: “We’re delighted to welcome Guy to the easyProperty team. Guy has built up an admired reputation as an astute businessman and has a strong knowledge and understanding of the growth of DMGT's digital platforms, alongside his impressive media experience and connections. We look forward to working with him.”

The online platform easyproperty.com will initially focus on the lettings market, offering a ‘pick and mix’ range of services such as referencing, viewings, deposit handling and tenancy agreements. This unbundled pricing model, which has been pioneered by the easyGroup, offers landlords complete choice and control and will allow them to create a bespoke package to suit their individual requirements.

Unlike traditional estate agents, easyProperty will not charge landlords an upfront fee for listing properties and by introducing unbundled pricing, will save consumers from paying extortionate fees for services they do not require. The service is not restricted by retail opening hours and without shop front overheads such as rent, fit out and staffing, it is able to offer a more cost effective alternative to traditional estate agency.
