Jeremy Paxman to pose the questions at Jersey funds event in London

Former BBC Newsnight anchor, Jeremy Paxman, will be asking the questions about the prospects for the international funds industry when he moderates this year’s Jersey Finance funds conference.

Entitled ‘Winning Moves,’ the annual conference, which will be held i London on 19 March, will provide an analysis of the current global funds marketplace, the changing regulatory landscape and the role of alternative fund domiciles as the global industry meets the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Jeremy Paxman will be chairing two panel sessions during the course of the conference and will also make the closing remarks.

An award-winning journalist who began his career in the 1970's, Jeremy Paxman worked on BBC news programmes such as Tonight and Panorama before becoming synonymous with Newsnight during a 25-year tenure on the programme. He is the presenter of several documentary series on books he has written about Britain's Empire and The Great War. He is also the quizmaster of University Challenge on BBC2. Most recently, he wrote and presented Churchill: The Nation's Farewell on BBC1.

The conference panel debates will include a focus on the impact of new regulatory measures in the EU and how political issues are affecting private equity structuring. There will also be a wider discussion of the nature of the challenges facing alternative fund domiciles including insights into how Jersey is working as a conduit for inward real estate and infrastructure from US, Middle East and Asian investors.

Geoff Cook, CEO, Jersey Finance, who will introduce the conference, says: ‘With funds business in Jersey at its highest level for five years and firm evidence of increasing growth since the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) was implemented, the conference arrives at an ideal time in that it will examine in detail the effective and wide ranging role that Jersey is playing in the alternative investment sector through its structuring capabilities, listing services and administrative expertise.

“From a fund servicing point of view, as regulatory pressures ramp up the volume and complexity of reporting requirements there is also expected to be a significant opportunity for Jersey’s specialist service providers to support their onshore counterparts by meeting the demand for outsourced administration and governance requirements and the conference will review these opportunities, while also exploring the potential in key overseas markets.

“With its emphasis on analysis and insights into the international funds industry, the Jersey Finance annual funds conference is designed to appeal to lawyers, fund managers and other UK based senior finance professionals. It takes place on Thursday, 19 March at 8 Northumberland Avenue, London, starting at 12.30pm with a networking lunch and finishing by 7 pm with a drinks reception.”
