Churchill brings over 25 years of banking, legal, consulting and business development experience to his new role.

Churchill joins Square 1 Bank from Cooley LLP where he was a member of the founding team and served as senior vice president of business development in the firm's Los Angeles office. While there, his responsibilities included relationship management, client engagement and deal sourcing to the venture community. Prior to Cooley, Churchill spent 12 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers as the firm's director of emerging company services for its southern California technology and entertainment practice. Previous experience also includes roles of increasing responsibility in law, banking and financial printing. Churchill earned a BBA from Western Michigan University and holds a JD from Indiana University School of Law.

An active member of the Los Angeles entrepreneurial ecosystem, Churchill has received several honours acknowledging his contributions to the community. In 2009, he was named Technology Leader of the Year by Los Angeles County's TechWeek, and in 2012, Churchill was appointed to the Los Angeles Mayor's Council on Innovation and Industry. He has served in leadership roles for several industry organisations, including past president of the Los Angeles Venture Association, and past chair of both the Caltech and Central Coast chapters of the MIT Enterprise Forum. Churchill also sat on the board of directors of the Los Angeles Business Technology Center, CleanTech LA, USC's Centre for Technology Commercialisation, SoCal Tech Group and the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation's Green Task Force.

"I am very excited to join Square 1 Bank," says Churchill. "Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to support emerging companies in a variety of roles – as a lender, attorney and advisor – and I look forward to leveraging this expertise for the benefit of clients and colleagues, as well as partnering with Chris to enhance the Bank's presence in the market."

Chris Erro, managing director of Square 1 Bank's Los Angeles/Orange County practice, says: "We are pleased to welcome Randy to the Square 1 team. In addition to a stellar reputation in the market, Randy brings tremendous experience to his new position, plus he is truly passionate about serving entrepreneurs. Randy's depth and variety of experience will be of high-value as we continue to expand our footprint in the region and provide clients with the capital resources and solutions they need to be successful."
