Mesirow Advanced Strategies appoints Mark Kulpins Co-CIO

Mesirow Advanced Strategies has named Mark Kulpins as co-chief investment officer (Co-CIO).

Kulpins will work alongside Steve Vogt, who previously served as sole chief investment officer. “We’re pleased to recognise Mark’s valuable contributions to the investment team and to our investment performance,” says Tom Macina, chief executive officer of Mesirow Advanced Strategies, Inc.

In his role as co-CIO, Kulpins will continue to manage the teams responsible for hedge fund research and portfolio management, while Vogt will continue to focus on macro level analysis, strategy allocation, and portfolio research.

“Mark and I have worked together for over a decade, and I am delighted to see him elevated to this position,” said Steve Vogt, co-chief investment officer. Together the two lead and manage the firm’s global investment management team which specialises in sourcing niche opportunistic investments and building custom-designed multi-manager portfolios for the firm’s clients.

Kulpins joined Mesirow Advanced Strategies in August 2004 as a research analyst and has increased responsibility within the company since then. Prior to his appointment to head of research in July 2013, he led the relative value strategy team (2007) and the portfolio research team (2009). He became a member of the investment committee in 2010, and joined the executive committee in 2013. Kulpins received a BS in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Chicago, and is a CFA charterholder.
