Venture capital firm Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP) has promoted Charles Birnbaum to vice president (VP) with respsonsibility for helping lead the firm’s New York office.
Birnbaum joined BVP in 2013. He is focused on investments in the financial services, education, Internet of things and consumer Internet sectors, and has helped lead Bessemer's investments in August Home, Quantopian, OMsignal, Abacus, BrightBytes and Main Street Hub. Currently, he represents BVP as a director at United Capital and is actively involved at August Home, Betterment, BrightBytes, Main Street Hub, OMsignal, Quantopian and Yodle.
“Charles has been a valuable member of the BVP team, bringing his startup operating and finance backgrounds together to connect with entrepreneurs,” says Rob Stavis, partner at BVP. “We are excited for him to expand his contributions to the firm in this new capacity as vice president.”
Prior to joining BVP, Birnbaum spent more than three years at Foursquare, the location-based mobile application company based in New York, helping create and bring to market some of Foursquare’s first merchant-facing tools. As the company grew, Charles became the director of mobile and international business development, where he focused on building strategic partnerships with carriers and OEMs while leading the company’s business development efforts in key growth markets such as Brazil, Russia and Turkey. Prior to Foursquare, Birnbaum spent six years in investment banking and equity capital markets focusing on the technology, media and telecom sectors, and executed more than 50 equity and equity-linked public offerings.
