Morrison & Foerster appoints Sloan as London Corporate Head, Global M&A Co-Chair

Morrison & Foerster has appointed corporate lawyer Graeme Sloan as a partner in the Mergers and Acquisitions practice in the firm’s London office.

Sloan will head the firm’s London corporate practice and will serve as global co-chair of the firm’s M&A practice. Sloan’s arrival continues the expansion of the firm’s presence in Europe following the opening of the firm’s office in Germany.

Sloan joins the firm from Latham & Watkins, where he served as global co-chair of their M&A practice. His practice focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, acting for both strategic and private equity buyers, as well as on corporate finance matters. He brings a wealth of experience advising on complex public and private M&A transactions across a broad range of industries, including life sciences and health care, energy, technology, financial services, consumer products, logistics, and retail.

“Graeme is a leading M&A lawyer in the UK and we are delighted he is joining the firm,” says Larren Nashelsky, chair of Morrison & Foerster. “Our successful recruitment of Graeme underscores our commitment to growing our global M&A and private equity practice at the highest levels of the market.”

Paul Friedman, Morrison & Foerster’s managing partner for Europe, says: “With a track record of building a successful corporate practice in London, Graeme will be instrumental in our continued expansion in the UK and continental Europe.  His extensive experience advising clients on cross-border transactions will complement and build on our market-leading capabilities in the US, Asia, and Germany.”

Thomas Knox, global co-chair of the firm’s Corporate Department, says: “The M&A market in the UK and Europe has seen significant growth recently, with deal levels soaring in 2014 and with 2015 on pace to be another banner year. Graeme’s arrival comes at a great time in the market cycle. His depth of experience in complex cross-border transactions will be invaluable to serving our clients in the region and around the globe.

“The global nature of Morrison & Foerster’s M&A practice attracted me to the firm,” says Sloan. “Morrison & Foerster has shown its commitment to expanding its global English law M&A platform by building on its exceptional capability in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore.   I look forward to being part of this dynamic and growing practice.”
