White & Case adds new partner in Stockholm

Global law firm White & Case has expanded its Nordic private equity capabilities with the addition of Johan Steen (pictured) as a new partner in Stockholm.

“The Nordic private equity market has been consistently one of the most active in Europe and is home to some of the world’s most successful private equity firms,” says White & Case partner John Reiss, Global Head of the Firm’s Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. “The addition of Johan continues the development of our top tier Stockholm private equity practice and strengthens our wider private equity practice in the Nordic region.”

Steen, who joins the Firm’s Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice, focuses his practice on M&A, particularly private equity, and has advised Nordic and international financial sponsors on M&A, fundraisings and financial restructuring (including distressed M&A). He brings more than ten years of experience and joins White & Case from Vinge. His prior experience also includes Swedish court services and acting as associate general counsel at Altor Equity Partners, one of the major Nordic private equity firms.

“Johan is an entrepreneurial lawyer with a rounded practice as a proven advisor to private equity clients and to clients on restructurings, distressed investment situations and complex investment structures,” says White & Case partner Richard Youle, co-head of the Firm’s EMEA private equity group. “His arrival is another important strategic step in the ongoing growth of the Firm’s EMEA private equity practice.”

Since the beginning of 2014, White & Case has expanded its global private equity practice with the addition of nine new partners in two continents. In London, Ian Bagshaw, Richard Youle and Matthew Griffin joined the Mergers & Acquisitions group; Colin Harley and Martin Forbes, who have a dedicated focus on private equity sponsors, joined the banking group; and equity capital markets partner Inigo Esteve, who supports the private equity team’s advice on IPOs, joined the capital markets group. In Germany, partner Gernot Wagner joined the capital markets group in Frankfurt, advising private equity firms on high yield offerings and public and private debt and equity. In Hong Kong, M&A/private equity lawyers KS Kim and Peggy Wang joined the Firm, focusing on clients in Asia.
