Doug Pepper joins Shasta Ventures as MD

Doug Peper (pictured) has joined early-stage venture firm Shasta Ventures as a managing director. Pepper brings a wealth of experience in the SaaS and mobile spaces, and is a powerful addition to Shasta’s proven investment team.

Pepper has focused on investing in SaaS and mobile companies that help enterprises optimize their relationships with customers. From marketing and sales to advertising and customer success, he has invested in nearly a dozen SaaS companies in these areas.

Pepper was the first investor in Marketo in 2006, which is now leading the marketing automation space as a public company. Pepper was also an early investor in Flurry (acquired by Yahoo), Lombardi (acquired by IBM) and Optimizely, and currently serves as a board member of Appboy, Badgeville, Newscred, INVIDI, Spredfast and Tapjoy — all examples of SaaS and mobile startups. Pepper’s investments generated well over USD500 million in revenue in 2015.

Before joining Shasta Ventures, Pepper spent 15 years at InterWest Partners, where he began his career in venture capital. His strong background in information technology, focus on enterprise software, and cultural alignment make him an ideal fit for Shasta’s team.

“Shasta has everything I was looking for in a new venture platform,” Pepper says. “The Shasta fund size is ideal for Series A and B investing and having just a handful of partners creates an efficient process where we can make quick decisions. It is also attractive that Shasta has a stellar enterprise software practice. Most importantly, the Shasta partners are known for their dedication to entrepreneurs and it shines through with strong references from founders that they have backed.”

Pepper’s deep investing experience, history of success and strong deal flow will be a valuable asset as Shasta Ventures furthers its mission of supporting entrepreneurs that are laser-focused on serving the end-user and disrupting enterprise and consumer technology. The firm is actively building its portfolio of enterprise SaaS, cloud and mobile startups, which includes flourishing companies such as Anaplan, Apptio, Lithium, Steelbrick, Zenprise and Zuora, and many others.

“Doug is an excellent investor with a strong track record and a stellar reputation,” says Jason Pressman, Managing Director, Shasta Ventures. “He is a great fit with our firm’s strategic vision and culture. As Shasta continues to build its software practice, Doug will provide new perspective to our team and our portfolio companies as we push the limits of technology, the market and existing ways of thinking.”
