Mayer Brown strengthens private equity practice

Mayer Brown has strengthened its private equity offering with the hire of Perry Yam as partner and Head of Private Equity in London. Yam’s appointment is part of an ongoing, global initiative to expand the firm's private equity offering.

Yam, who was Head of Private Equity for Europe & the Middle East at Reed Smith, has considerable experience across many elements of private equity, including venture and development capital, buyouts, secondaries and bolt-on acquisitions. He also advises management teams on equity arrangements and exit transactions, whether by way of trade sales, secondary acquisition or flotations. Prior to joining Reed Smith in 2012, Perry spent 20 years at SJ Berwin.

Yam acts for a number of UK and US-based private equity houses advising on their buyout transactions encompassing a wide range of sectors particularly, finance and technology, healthcare, renewable energy, business services and leisure.

Jeremy Kenley, firm practice leader of the Corporate & Securities practice at Mayer Brown, says: "Perry is a talented and experienced private equity lawyer with an impressive track record advising on a wide range of transactions. His expertise will expand our existing private equity capability in London, as well as strengthen our ability to service multinational clients across our global platform."

Sean Connolly, London senior partner at Mayer Brown, says: "We are delighted to welcome Perry to the firm, especially at a time when the private equity market is particularly active and looks set to remain so as private equity plays an increasingly important role in M&A and transactional activity. His experience and market knowledge will be immensely advantageous to us and will complement our growing pan-European and global private equity practice."

Yam says: "Joining the private equity team at Mayer Brown is an exciting opportunity. I look forward to working with the team in London and across the global platform to further develop and extend our reach in this arena."
