Cyrus appoints former senior cabinet minister and former head of British Army to advisory board

Cyrus Investment Management (CIM), the specialist engineering turnaround EIS investment adviser, has appointed the Right Honourable the Lord Peter Hain, formerly Secretary of State for Wales, and General Sir Peter Wall, formerly Chief of the General Staff, to CIM’s Advisory Board.

Peter Schwabach, Managing Partner of CIM, says: “We are very pleased to welcome two such distinguished figures to our Advisory Board. As an active investor in British Engineering with a focus on strategic businesses in the Aerospace, Defence and Security industries General Sir Peter Wall and Lord Hain bring to Cyrus a wealth of knowledge and relationships that benefit our investee companies and our investment strategy.”

CIM’s second fund, the Cyrus Precision Engineering EIS Fund 2, is currently open to investment. The Fund will identify undercapitalised and undervalued Precision Engineering Businesses in Cyrus’s core markets that are suitable candidates for ‘growth investment’:  that is the introduction of new capital, management, products and markets that facilitate the significant growth of these companies. Cyrus will aggregate these businesses enabling them to be sold as a single operating business at a premium to a third party trade buyer, after a minimum of three years. Fund 2 is anticipated to close for investment by the beginning of April, 2016.

In the UK, CIM is the only dedicated Enterprise Investment Scheme fund manager that offers individuals the ability to invest exclusively in this asset class with a management team that has over 50 years of experience of profitably investing in, re-structuring, and exiting British precision engineering companies.

The Right Honourable the Lord Hain served in the UK Government for 12 years, seven of these in the Cabinet. He negotiated the 2007 settlement to end the conflict in Northern Ireland and was a Foreign Minister with successive responsibilities for Africa, the Middle East and Europe.  From chairing the United Nations Security Council and representing the UK in negotiating international treaties, to domestic policy as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Leader of the House of Commons, Secretary of State for Wales, Energy Minister and an MP for 24 years, his experience is widespread.  He is a non-Executive Director of two AIM-listed UK companies operating in Africa, teaches part-time at the Universities of Swansea and South Wales, and was a British leader of the anti-apartheid movement, the child of South African parents jailed, banned and forced into exile during the freedom struggle.  His memoirs, Outside In, were published in 2012.

General Sir Peter Wall GCB CBE DL joined the Royal Engineers from Sandhurst in 1974. In 2010, he was appointed as Chief of the General Staff, the professional head of the British Army, after a year as Commander-in-Chief Land Forces. After a full and fascinating career he retired as Chief of the Army in 2014. He has served all over the world, including operational command tours in Rhodesia, the Balkans, and Iraq. He has extensive experience of Whitehall and working at the top of Government. He is now Director of Amicus, a strategic leadership consultancy, specialising in imparting military command experience to the corporate world, with emphasis on strategic planning and execution, development of senior leaders, trust, reputation, and resilience. He is an honorary fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of Selwyn College Cambridge and also visiting professor at Exeter University.
