Gibson Dunn appoints financial regulatory partner James Perry from Ashurst

James Perry is to join Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s London office as a partner. Currently a partner in Ashurst’s Financial Institutions Group in London, Perry (pictured) will continue his regulatory and transactional practice, with a focus on the financial services and insurance industries.

“We are pleased to welcome Jim to the firm,” says Ken Doran, Chairman and Managing Partner of Gibson Dunn.  “Jim has a uniquely broad background with deep experience in both financial services regulation and M&A for financial institutions, including insurance companies. Jim’s addition is a critical step to expanding our premier regulatory practice, while providing essential support to our growing London corporate practice, particularly our capital markets, public companies practice and funds capabilities.”

“Our London office already has a strong contentious regulatory practice,” says Jeffrey Trinklein, Co-Partner in Charge of the London office.  “Jim’s focus on non-contentious financial services regulation strengthens our position as a leading global law firm that is able to interact with multiple regulators and allows us to continue to build a top US and English dual regulatory capability that few firms can match.”

“As we grow our transactional practice in London, we will increasingly require regulatory expertise from a known market practitioner,” says Charlie Geffen, Chair of the London corporate practice.  “Jim is a leading lawyer in the FIG sector, and with his arrival, the firm will be able to offer high-quality financial regulatory advice on both sides of the Atlantic and distinguish itself in the market from our peer firms.”

“Gibson Dunn’s broad and market leading capability of the highest quality, offers significant opportunity for me with a culture which I can be certain is supportive,” says Perry. “The firm has made strong investments in the London office, and I look forward to helping continue that growth.”
