LDC strengthens portfolio support with new director

Leading mid-market private equity house LDC has strengthened its support for management teams with the appointment of Chris Coulton as Portfolio Director.

Coulton joins LDC after 15 years at Deloitte where he specialised in advising mid-market private equity-backed businesses. In his new role, Coulton will work alongside LDC’s portfolio to deliver strategic and operational support that will help drive value and market-leading performance.

Coulton’s experience to date spans a range of sectors including manufacturing, energy, retail & consumer and support services. He has also previously advised LDC on several of its portfolio businesses during his time at Deloitte.

On his appointment, Coulton says: “LDC’s commitment to backing mid-market businesses from across the economy has helped create one of the most diverse and exciting portfolios in private equity. Its management-led approach is fundamental to building great businesses and I look forward to being part of that story.”

Chris Hurley, Co-Head and Chief Executive of LDC, says: “Delivering value within our portfolio is absolutely central to what we do. Chris’ experience in the field will only strengthen the market-leading resource we can offer to management teams when it comes to delivering growth and operational improvement.”

In 2015, LDC invested GBP350 million of equity in 14 businesses and over the last two years has generated exit proceeds of around GBP1.3 billion.

It has pledged to invest GBP1.2 billion of equity into UK-based growth businesses over the next three years and its 90-strong portfolio of companies includes the NEC Group and global insurance technology specialist SSP.
