Senic secures seed financing from Target Partners

Senic, a developer of ‘smart home’ natural user interfaces, has secured a seed investment from venture capital firm Target Partners.

The company’s first product, Nuimo, is a smart home controller that enables interaction with in-home technology such as Sonos or Raumfeld multi-room speakers, Philips Hue light bulbs, and smart thermostats.

The Nuimo has received some of the top technology and design awards, including the Red Dot Design Award 2016.

While the Nuimo’s interaction model revolves around haptic and gesture input, the team is developing ways to bring optical and speech interfaces to future device generations.

The Senic team employs an interdisciplinary approach that combines the fields of engineering and lean manufacturing, and design and psychology.

“We are thrilled to be working with Target Partners. Not only do they have deep knowledge of how to build a technology intensive hardware and software start-up – but they understand how to develop and maintain a vision that can drive the creation of products that change people’s lives,” says Tobias Eichenwald, co-founder and CEO of Senic.

The Nuimo garnered significant interest through crowdfunding campaigns and brought in pre-orders of over USD500,000. At the IFA trade fair in Berlin from 31 August to 7 September, Senic is exhibiting with its new partner, multi-room speaker manufacturer Raumfeld.

As a launch partner of the Amazon Launchpad programme, the Nuimo can be purchased either through Amazon or directly through Senic.

“It’s very rare to find a start-up able to develop and manufacture premium products at the level of Apple or Leica, and so we are very excited to work with the top-notch team behind Senic,” says Michael Münnix, partner at Target Partners. “With the internet of things gaining momentum, the technology that surrounds us is becoming increasingly complex. With this trend we see a requirement for more intuitive, seamless user interfaces, which will transform the way we interact with technology.”

Senic was founded in 2013 by Tobias Eichenwald, Philip Michaelides, and Felix Christmann. The start-up currently employs 10 people in Berlin.
