McDermott adds PE partner to corporate and transactional practice in New York

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery has appointed Robert Goldstein as a partner in the firm’s corporate and transactional practice group in New York and head of the New York office’s private equity team.

Goldstein joins McDermott from another Am Law 100 firm, where he was chair of the private equity practice.

“McDermott’s global platform will be a great asset as I continue to expand and cultivate my longstanding client relationships in the private equity arena,” says Goldstein. “I expect my years of experience in middle market private equity to provide the perfect complement to McDermott’s existing client service approach both in New York and around the world.”

Goldstein’s arrival is the latest of recent corporate partner additions to the firm, as it continues to build its private equity capabilities globally. Goldstein follows the arrival of private equity partner Jeremy Dickens in New York in July, and the addition in April of private equity partner Piero Carbone in McDermott’s London office.

“Rob Goldstein makes an exceptional addition to the firm,” says Ira J Coleman, global head of McDermott’s corporate and transactional practice. “He is a great fit for the New York office as we continue expanding our deal practice here. Rob’s significant experience in middle market transactions, along with his well-established client relationships across a wide range of industry segments, will help build momentum for our private equity group.”

With more than two decades of experience across a wide range of corporate transactions and business sectors, Goldstein focuses his practice on private equity, leveraged buyouts, mergers & acquisitions, and distressed investing.

“Rob is a stellar transactional lawyer with an enviably long deal list – adding a practitioner of his calibre to lead our private equity group in New York is an important piece of our strategy for growing McDermott’s Transactions practice here,” says David Goldman, co-head of the New York office. “Our practice platform will be beneficial to both Rob and his clients, and several of his private equity clients are focused on the healthcare space, a huge market for the firm.”

McDermott’s corporate and transactional practice represents business interests around the world, from global corporations and industry-leading companies to privately funded and entrepreneurial driven enterprises, as well as the financial institutions that support them.
