Partners Group acquires EdgeCore Digital in $1.2bn deal

Partners Group has acquired hyperscale data centre platform EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure for $1.2 billion, the latest deal in a raft of data centre acquisitions by private equity groups, according to a report by PE Insights.

KKR purchased CyrusOne last year for $15 billion, while  DigitalBridge partnered with IFM to buy Switch for $11 billion in May, and Blackstone Infrastructure Partners acquired QTS Realty Trust for a cool $10 billion.

And the trend doesn’t look like ending anytime soon with the report claiming that industry experts expect 2023 to bring the highest volume of private equity acquisitions in the data centre space yet. Valued at $50 billion by the end of 2021, Straits Research projects the data centre colocation market size to be roughly $160 billion by 2030.
