SL Capital Partners strengthens private equity investment team in Boston

SL Capital Partners has appointed Whit Matthews as an investment manager for private equity.

SL Capital Partners has appointed Whit Matthews as an investment manager for private equity.

He was previously an investment associate at the University of Pennsylvania’s Office of Investments, responsible for researching and investing in private equity funds and absolute return strategies.

Based in Boston, and working with Jamie Ebersole, Eric Albertson and John Cancellieri, Matthews will be an integral part of the team which manages USD600m of US private equity interests raised from clients.

His responsibilities will include helping to identify funds which represent attractive investment opportunities and undertaking financial and business analysis of direct investment opportunities in private companies.

‘Whit’s appointment is the latest step in the development of our US based private equity team,’ says SL Capital Partners head David Currie. ‘I am confident that with his experience and expertise Whit will prove to be a valuable addition to the Boston office.

‘This is a challenging time for the private equity business. History, however, shows that the private equity industry, specifically the buyout industry, has found many attractive opportunities during economic downturns and that there will be some very attractive opportunities over the next couple of years or so. This appointment is evidence of our continuing confidence in and commitment to private equity as an important long term asset class.’
