Lord Heseltine’s radical report looking at the urgency of reforms to unleash growth and wealth creation in Britain makes for compelling reading. His emphasis on a strategy for the cities and regions, not just London, is one the BVCA has long championed with our regional engagement programme.
The need for good and consistent regulation, made in conjunction with business and without constant overhaul is another recommendation I welcome. The emphasis on a strong and multi-faceted industrial policy is vital. As I said at the BVCA Summit, we in private equity are factories, not financiers.
Above all however, it is the relentless emphasis on a holistic strategy for economic success that is the most important part of the report. This is not about SMEs verses major firms, government verses business, capital verses labour. We all need to combine our talents if Britain is to succeed in the coming years.
