Kleiner Perkins sets up liaison office in Tianfu Software Park

Venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) has set up its first remote liaison office in West China in Chengdu Tianfu Software Park.

This office, connected to KPCB’s Beijing and Shanghai offices by an advanced Polycom video system, aims to build a bridge between local entrepreneurs and KPCB investors to broaden local talents’ learning scopes and to provide local startups more funding opportunities.

"In recent years, Chengdu has seen a growing entrepreneurial scene with a large number of startups successfully promoting their products in China and abroad. In fact, we have seen for quite some time a large number of venture capital firms paying particular attention to the high-tech industries in Chengdu," says Zhou Jiang, the general manager of Tianfu Software Park incubation centre.

In 2011, the aggregated amount of investments received by startups located in the incubation centre exceeded USD15m.

According to some statistics, Chengdu is now home to more than 500 mobile internet companies employing over 20,000 people, covering areas such as games, applications, social networks, mobile Internet, information security, e-commerce and mobile payments.

Since established its office in China in 2007, KPCB has invested in many internet companies, including leading enterprises in high-tech industries such as 360buy, Limei, Miaozhen, Kingnet, Huaban.com, Xiu.com and Meican.com.
