Phoenix appoints new chairman

Phoenix Equity Partners, the UK mid-market private equity investor, has appointed Hugh Lenon as part-time chairman with immediate effect.

At the same time, the firm has appointed Sandy Muirhead as chairman of Phoenix’s investment committee and James Thomas as chairman of its management committee.

Lenon (pictured) has been active in the private equity investment sector for over 25 years and in 2010/11 was also chairman of the BVCA, the UK’s private equity and venture capital sector trade body. Since co-founding the business in 2001, Lenon has been one of three managing partners at Phoenix, together with Muirhead and Thomas.

Muirhead and Thomas will continue as managing partners. Phoenix has in total ten partners, 35 staff and three UK offices in London, Manchester and Harrogate.

Lenon says: "I look forward very much to my new role as chairman of Phoenix. With Phoenix in good shape and with half of our current fund committed, now is an appropriate time for roles to change. I will be taking this opportunity also to further develop my non-commercial interests.”
