USSIM makes additional hires to strengthen co-investment team

USS Investment Management (USSIM), the wholly-owned investment management subsidiary of Universities Superannuation Scheme, has appointed Robin Filmer-Wilson as investment manager, private equity co-investments.

Filmer-Wilson (pictured) has over 14 years of direct private equity and mezzanine investing experience, first at Brown Brothers Harriman in New York, then at Baring Private Equity in London and Paris.

Since 2005, he has been a director at TCR Capital, a French mid-market private equity firm, where he worked on numerous LBO transactions as principal.

Mike Powell, head of alternatives assets at USSIM, says: “This addition underscores the commitment to the co-investment strategy which enables us to scale exposure to specific transactions that best suit our investment objectives whilst reducing the overall cost of the private equity programme.”

In 2012, the co-investment team completed seven equity and mezzanine transactions worth GBP200m, increasing the total assets in the scheme’s co-investment portfolio to GBP500m. USSIM’s private equity co-investment strategy focuses on investing alongside leading private equity investors in equity as well as in the debt of their portfolio companies.
