Aldermore, a British bank backed by funds advised by private equity firm AnaCap Financial Partners, has appointed two non-executive directors to its board – John Hitchins and Cathy Turner.

Hitchins is a qualified accountant who brings 38 years of experience to the role, having spent his whole career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) becoming partner in 1988 and retiring in June 2014. He has specialised in bank auditing and advisory services throughout his career.

At PwC his major clients included Euroclear, Lloyds Banking Group, the Bank of England, Bank of Ireland, Barclays, JP Morgan Chase and Nomura. He also carried out a wide variety of advisory work for other banks and on behalf of the regulators covering corporate governance, high level controls and other regulatory issues. Hitchins was PwC’s banking industry leader from 2001-10 and from 2010 to his retirement led the PwC network’s global IFRS technical group.

Turner is currently non-executive director and chair of the remuneration committee at Countrywide. She is also vice president of UNICEF UK and is a council member of the Royal College of Art, and Institute of Financial Services.

Turner has extensive experience in financial services with 15 years at Barclays and Lloyds Banking Group. She was formerly chief administrative officer of Lloyds Banking Group plc. At Barclays, she was a member of the group executive committee and group HR director with responsibility for human resources, strategy, corporate affairs, brand and marketing. During her time with Barclays she was also director of investor relations for four years. In her earlier career Turner worked in consultancy with Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young and Watson Wyatt managing client relationships with a particular focus on compensation and benefits.

Glyn Jones, chairman of Aldermore Bank, says: “I am delighted that Aldermore has been able to attract non-executive directors of John and Cathy’s calibre and experience, and I’m very much looking forward to working with them both.”

Aldermore’s non-executive director David Soskin has decided to step down from the board.
