White & Case strengthens PE sponsor capabilities with addition of new banking partner

Law firm White & Case has added further strength to its UK banking practice and intensified its focus on private equity sponsors with the arrival of new partner Martin Forbes in the London office.

“With the addition of Martin, a finance lawyer with a career built on advising private equity sponsors, White & Case is continuing to build its already strong UK bank finance practice,” says White & Case partner Eric Berg, global banking practice leader. “Following the recent arrival of new banking partner Colin Harley, who also focuses on advising borrower-side clients, it further demonstrates our commitment to developing a leading pan-European, cross-border private equity practice based in London.”

Forbes, who joins the firm’s global banking practice, focuses primarily on advising private equity sponsors, their portfolio companies, other borrowers and alternative capital providers. He joins from Clifford Chance and brings nearly 12 years of experience.

“Martin is a committed lawyer with excellent technical skills, strong client relationships and a highly credible track record,” says White & Case partner Lee Cullinane, regional section head, EMEA banking. “The additional borrower-side focus he brings to the Firm will help ensure our clients benefit from our leading US/European leveraged finance product platform, which combines sophisticated finance support with the English, US and local law capability already provided by the Firm in all the major jurisdictions in which private equity firms invest or raise finance.”

Over the past year White & Case has expanded its EMEA private equity practice with the addition of partners Ian Bagshaw, Richard Youle and Ross Allardice in the London office. Their arrivals have been augmented by the recent additions of equity capital markets partner Inigo Esteve and banking partner Colin Harley.
