The combined internal rate of return for UK private equity and venture capital was 15.7 per cent in 2013, according to a survey by the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA).
By comparison, total pension fund assets produces 7.8 per cent in the same period while the FTSE All-Share index returned 8.8 per cent.
The survey, produced in association with PwC and Capital Dynamics, encompasses 515 UK-managed independent private equity and venture capital funds.
Venture capital recorded a one-year return of 22.9 per cent in 2013, with funds launched after 2002 generating a since inception IRR of 5.9 per cent. This is the strongest performance from this group since the BVCA began measuring its performance.
