Diamond raises over USD2m led by Joe Lonsdale

Personal data management company Diamond has raised over USD2 million in funding to create a single access point for all cloud-based email, data storage services and personal devices.

The round of funding was led by Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale of 8VC (formerly Formation 8) with participation by Cherubic Ventures, Beehive, Partech Ventures, Sway Ventures, Garage VC and Silicon Valley legend Pierre Lamond.

Inspired by JARVIS, the AI-powered assistant in Iron Man, Diamond founder Pierre Arys and head engineer Leander Lee are building a personal layer of secure intelligence that covers all devices and services, including Google Drive, Gmail and Dropbox.

It aims to make data accessible and able to be queried regardless of where it is stored.

“At the core of Diamond’s vision, is a belief in human and machine symbiosis,” says Lee. “We believe in the idea that humans can live much richer and fuller lives by leveraging machines to overcome our weaknesses.”

Investor Bill Malloy, founding general partner of Sway Ventures, says: “The proliferation of data is de facto. As humans, either within enterprises or households, we are creating more data, documents, and content than we can possibly process. The answer has been largely to just throw more storage at the problem, so as data has increased, so have the number of cloud storage tools. Diamond is solving this with software that is distinctly human-focused, personal, and trusted. Pierre and the team are building the software to tackle the inefficiencies inherent in managing work, and we’re excited to be backing them.”

“We’re at a unique point in time where machine learning techniques are giving once unreachable results,” says Arys.
