Ogier  has strengthened its Cayman law practice group with the appointment of Gordon Howorth and Daniel Smith to its London office.

Howorth joins the firm with more than 12 years’ experience working within international and offshore investment, including hedge fund, private equity and cross-border structures, across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia.

Smith, an Australian solicitor and barrister, has moved from Finlaysons Lawyers in Adelaide to join the growing Ogier London office. Specialising in investment funds, finance and corporate law Smith has experience in the structuring of Cayman investment funds, acting for both borrowers and lenders in corporate and institutional finance transactions.

Established in 2003 Ogier’s London office has grown in reputation and presence to become one of the most dynamic within the giant offshore group. In the past 18 months it has doubled in size, both in terms of staff employed and the specialist work it undertakes.

Gray Smith, managing partner of Ogier LLP, said: ‘These appointments are reflective of the level of growth we are experiencing within our Cayman in Europe service. Recruiting this calibre of lawyers will strengthen the service currently on offer to our Europe and Middle East-based clients.’

Ogier’s London office provides clients with advice on all aspects of Cayman Islands law, specialising in investment funds, fund related financial products, private equity, structured finance and corporate transactions.

In addition the fiduciary services team is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority and has particular expertise in the creation and ongoing administration of unregulated collective investment schemes and the provision of operator services to clients establishing vehicles to invest in real estate and other areas.

Ogier was recently named ‘Offshore Law Firm of the Year’ at The Lawyer Awards in June.
