Radford, Virginia-based private equity and venture capital firm Third Security has announced the closing of its sixth and largest investment fund, New River Management V, with commitments

Radford, Virginia-based private equity and venture capital firm Third Security has announced the closing of its sixth and largest investment fund, New River Management V, with commitments of USD250m.

The fund, whose general partner is Third Security Capital Partners V, will invest in public and private companies and has already announced investments or commitments to invest in several companies, including Clinical Data, Cyntellect, Halozyme Therapeutics and Intrexon Corporation.

‘With this fund, we have expanded our base of limited partners as well as our ability to participate in the actualisation of many promising new technologies,’ says Third Security chief executive Randal Kirk.

‘New River Management V will be managed by the same team that has contributed to the success of our previous five funds. By continuing to apply our exacting standards for investing and our hands-on management approach, we expect to achieve success for the fund’s investors and portfolio companies.’

Third Security is an independent private equity and venture capital firm formed in 1999 to manage investments in public and private companies. The firm evaluates opportunities in a wide range of industries, but focuses principally on emerging through late-stage investments in life sciences and information technology.
