Yorkville Advisors, the investment manager of YA Global Investments, a private investment firm that specialises in structured finance and direct investments, has completed its first investment in India, in Sri Adhikari Brothers Television Network. Yorkville is a member of an investor consortium that has invested in a foreign currency convertible bond with a 2012 maturity date.
‘India is one of the most exciting and technologically advanced countries in the world,’ says Yorkville founder Mark Angelo. ‘With a sizeable middle class emerging, we believe this to be the first of many more investment opportunities.’
Based in Mumbai, Sri Adhikari was the first publicly listed television production company in India and recently signed a five-year contract with Sony to provide new content for Indian TV.
India’s television business is more than double the size of ‘Bollywood’, with an estimated USD3.4bn in revenues in 2005, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers. There are around 105 million homes with televisions in India, up from 88 million in 2000, and television sales are expected to reach 18.7 million units by 2011, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 9 per cent from 12.1 million units in 2006, according to iSupply.
Founded in 2001, Yorkville was one of the most active US investors in terms of the number of structured equity financings in 2006, according to specialist industry data provider Knobias Pipe Trac, having structured more than USD800m in committed equity capital in more than 100 transactions in the US and worldwide over the past 12 months.
Yorkville Advisors is headquartered in Jersey City, New Jersey, and has offices in London, San Diego and Jupiter, Florida, as well as joint ventures established in Milan and Tel Aviv this year.
