Third Security, an independent private equity and venture capital firm that focuses on investments in life sciences and information technology, has appointed two new managing directors, Jeff Perez and Jeff Stark.
Perez has joined the firm as managing director and associate general counsel for intellectual property, evaluating the intellectual property portfolios of potential investments for Third Security’s funds, and working with current investee companies to evaluate and develop their own intellectual property positions. Perez was previously with the litigation and intellectual property practice team at law firm Hunton & Williams in Washington.
Stark, who has joined Third Security as a managing director, will work closely with the firm’s portfolio companies to seize opportunities in developing markets. He was previously a managing director for Tyco Telecommunications for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Earlier he worked in the information, communications and technology sector with Pacific Century Cyber Works and Global TeleSystems, including a four-year period during which he lived in Russia building fibre optic systems and data networks in the former Soviet Union.

While evaluating opportunities in a wide range of industries, the firm focuses principally on emerging through late-stage investments in life sciences and information technology.
