New York-based private equity firm Vestar Capital Partners has announced that Chris A Durbin, Brian J Modesitt and Kristian M Whalen have been promoted to managing director, having previously been principals with the firm.

Durbin, who joined Vestar in 2007, is currently a member of Vestar’s resources group, the firm’s team of professionals who serve as strategic, operational and organisational advisers to portfolio company management teams. He was previously a managing director for strategy and business development with Bank of America’s global wealth and investment management business.

Modesitt, who joined the firm in 2002, is currently a member of the firm’s financial services group. He was previously with TCW/Crescent Mezzanine and Morgan Stanley, where he focused his activity on financial institutions.

Whalen (photo), who originally joined Vestar in 1997 and rejoined the firm in 2002, is currently a member of Vestar’s consumer and business services group. Previously, Whalen was with the M&A group at Paine Webber in New York.

Vestar’s investment strategy is targeted towards companies in the US, Europe and Japan with valuations in the USD100m to USD5bn range.

Vestar currently manages funds with committed capital totalling approximately USD7bn and has offices or affiliates operating in New York, Denver, Boston, Paris, Milan, Munich and Tokyo.
