Montreux Healthcare Fund sells Regard Group to AMP Capital

The Montreux Healthcare Fund is selling its primary asset, The Regard Group, to AMP Capital, a specialist investment manager.

The Regard Group, which offers industry-leading specialist care for adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues, operates an efficient business with industry leading care quality ratings and occupancy.

The Montreux Healthcare Fund, which is advised by Montreux Capital Management (UK), bought The Regard Group with Macquarie Principal Finance three years ago and has subsequently grown the business into a national provider of premier specialist service by bolting on complementary acquisitions, most notably Aitch Care Homes and Adelphi Care. Today, the Regard Group operates 161 specialist care facilities across the UK, employing more than 2,200 staff and providing dedicated support to more than 1,100 individuals.

Oliver Harris, CEO, Monteux Capital Management (UK), says: “This is the most significant deal in the sector this year, owing to the quality of the business we have built. Montreux has more than doubled the value of the business in three years, whilst delivering award winning care and levels of service. We are sure that The Regard Group will continue to go from strength to strength under its new ownership.”

Florian Herold, Co-Head of Macquarie Principal Finance Europe, says: “This sale marks the successful finish to an exciting journey for us which started over three years ago. Management’s outstanding work has driven substantial growth in the business while maintaining market leading quality care for its clients. It’s great to see that by working with our partner Montreux, our support and capital investment were able to contribute to this rewarding outcome for clients, staff and shareholders.”

Julie-Anne Mizzi, Global Head of Infrastructure Health at AMP Capital, says: “Regard is an excellent investment for AMP Capital’s global infrastructure strategy. It has a strong existing management team, offers stable cashflows, and has industry-leading occupancy levels. In addition, the freehold ownership of its properties mean they can be tailored to meet local needs, which can support the UK Government’s objective of providing quality care closer to home. The strong focus on quality of care at Regard was a critical factor for us given the important social role it plays in the community, and we are committed to continuing to deliver a high standard of care.

“Current demographic trends in developed markets mean that the need for investment in social infrastructure and healthcare is growing. Our team’s expertise and experience in this sector and established track record of responsible investment, demonstrated by our market-leading ESG performance, make us well-placed to manage and develop an asset of this significance in the UK care sector.”
