BGF invests in CHS Healthcare

BGF has provided an investment of GBP10 million to CHS Healthcare, a national provider of specialist services for the NHS. The funding will be used to expand CHS’s infrastructure and operations, supporting the provision of services to the NHS nationwide.

Dr Richard Newland established CHS Healthcare in 1995 while working as a GP, recognising that families needed more support and expert advice when choosing a care home. The company was developed to provide free, expert advice to families and the value of this work was quickly recognised, building partnerships with hospitals and care homes throughout Birmingham and the Midlands. Today, CHS Healthcare employs more than 300 people nationwide, contracting with more than 60 NHS hospitals and clinical commissioning groups from the south coast and London, up to the north of England. The company also specialises in arranging packages of care enabling people to return to their own home, as well as supporting people who need to choose and move into a care home.

The work of CHS Healthcare plays a critical role in reducing delays to hospital discharge, one of the most pressing challenges for the NHS. Delays often occur because although patients are medically fit to leave hospital, they are unable to do so because of delays in choosing a care home or in arranging care in their own home. CHS Healthcare is the country’s leading provider in hospital discharge services.

CHS Healthcare is also the leading independent resource in NHS continuing healthcare, widely commissioned nationally and providing full services in some localities.

BGF is the most active and influential investor in small and medium sized businesses across all sectors and regions, investing more than 70 per cent of funds outside London and the south-east. The company has invested close to GBP200m in businesses headquartered in the Midlands.

Dr Richard Newland, CEO, CHS Healthcare, says: “We are absolutely delighted to embark on this partnership with BGF, who recognise the strengths of our business with this investment and equally, bring the highest calibre of business expertise to support the work we do.”

Gurinder Sunner, BGF, says: “CHS Healthcare has developed excellent relationships with its customers by focusing on quality of delivery and care and operational efficiency. We are pleased to be supporting Richard and the wider team as they continue to grow the business and their services across the UK.”
