BakerHostetler appoints new partner in Seattle

BakerHostetler has appointed Michael Moyer as a partner in the firm’s Seattle office, where he will work on clients’ corporate finance, project finance and other complex transactional needs.

Moyer comes to BakerHostetler from Cairncross & Hempelmann, PS. He is the first partner in the firm’s Business Group to be based in the Seattle office.

Moyer has represented a broad array of companies during his more than two decades as a corporate finance attorney. Though he continues to represent various types of clients, Moyer focuses his practice primarily on serving sustainable industry, life science and other technology companies. He has handled complex transactions ranging from public and private equity debt offerings and mergers and acquisitions to licensing transactions and the formation of various types of partnerships.

His previous work includes representing a leading sustainable agriculture company and its first project entity with $190 million in equity and debt financings for the construction and operation of the world’s first sustainable wheat straw-to-pulp plant in eastern Washington, the sale of a leading enterprise software-as-a-service (Saas) company to one of the largest software vendors in Europe, and representing a cutting-edge water management business as it prepared to enter a strategic partnership with a large, publicly held Japanese water treatment company.

“The addition of Mike here in Seattle shows that BakerHostetler is continuing to commit resources to its already substantial West Coast presence,” says Seattle office partner-in-charge Tim Casey. “We look forward to expanding our corporate capabilities with more attorneys like Mike, not just on the West Coast, but across the country and internationally as well.”

“Mike is a great addition to our national business practice,” says John Gherlein, chair of the firm’s Business Group. “Mike’s experience helping clients in cutting-edge industries to finance and grow their businesses bolsters our capabilities to serve clients in the Northwest and across the country.”

Moyer received his BA from Gonzaga University and his JD. from Fordham University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review. In addition to his legal practice, Moyer is a member of the Washington Clean Technology Alliance and the Element 8 investment group.

“BakerHostetler is a highly sophisticated firm that covers a breadth of practice areas with the depth and dedication my clients deserve,” says Moyer. “The firm’s commitment to exceptional and efficient service allows us to serve emerging and mid-sized clients so they can grow into global enterprises.”

BakerHostetler’s Business Group is comprised of nearly 200 business and corporate attorneys whose combined knowledge delivers creative and effective business solutions for publicly traded and privately held companies across the country and around the globe. With clients across the globe in nearly every segment of industry, its attorneys provide strategic counsel on corporate and securities matters, mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, debt and equity financing, real estate, bankruptcy, project and structured finance, and compliance with the laws and regulations governing international trade. The Business Group works closely with the firm’s other practices, including tax, IP, litigation, antitrust and employment, to provide effective and efficient service.
