FP Lux Investments acquires nine wind turbines in Finland

Luxembourg special fund FP Lux Investments is expanding its wind power portfolio with the purchase of the Ratiperä wind farm in southwestern Finland.

The portfolio of the Wind Infrastructure I sub-fund now totals 19 wind farms with 94 turbines and an installed capacity of 269 megawatts. Of this, a volume of 194 megawatts was acquired in Germany, 31 megawatts in France and 44 megawatts in Finland.

The deal was advised by the internationally active M&A advisors and asset manager re:cap global investors ag, which manages the entire evaluation and acquisition process of the special fund.

Thomas Seibel, CEO of re:cap, says: “The Ratiperä project is a milestone for the further diversification of our European portfolio. Finland offers an extremely stable investment environment and strong growth potential, as the government is actively promoting the expansion of renewable energies through government subsidies”. In concrete terms, Finnish energy production is to be increased from 4.8 terawatt hours in 2017 to 9 terawatt hours by 2025.

The nine turbines of the Ratiperä wind farm are of the Nordex N-131 type, each with a size class of three megawatts. The hub height is 146 metres; the rotor diameter is 131 metres. With a total output of 27 megawatts, the turbines supply around 17,000 households with climate-friendly wind power and thus avoid the emission of around 20,400 tonnes of CO2 per year. The wind farm was connected to the grid in September 2017 and was thus able to secure a state feed-in tariff guaranteed for twelve years. Vendor of the park is ABO Wind AG. The project developer will continue to be responsible for the commercial and technical management. Ratiperä is the fifth wind farm that the Wiesbaden-based company has connected to the grid in Finland. ABO Wind has installed a total of 29 turbines with a capacity of 92 megawatts in Finland to date.

Due to a favourable project pipeline, Wind Infrastructure I will continue to collect new investor funds until the fourth quarter of 2018. With an investment volume of over 180 million euros in equity capital, Wind Infrastructure I is one of the largest onshore wind funds in Europe. The fund was designed exclusively for institutional investors and invests directly in onshore wind projects that have already been completed or are under construction. The focus is on projects in Germany, supplemented by investments in other EU countries with favourable framework conditions, such as Finland, France, Denmark or Sweden. This makes the fund particularly interesting for security-oriented investors. Seibel: “By investing in Wind Infrastructure I, investors can participate directly in an operating asset portfolio that is diversified across Europe and thus generates stable returns even in a low-interest environment”.
