Browne Jacobson appoints Head of Financial Services

Law firm Browne Jacobson has appointed regulatory partner Jeremy Irving as Head of Financial Services. Irving was previously a partner at international law firm, DWF.

An expert in FCA and PRA regulatory issues, Irving (pictured), advises insurance and financial markets participants on both compliance and legal risk management, including as to: authorisations and exemptions; governance; solvency and capital; product development and distribution; reporting and notification; and investigations and enforcement. Recent projects have involved the Senior Managers & Certification Regime, the Market Abuse Regulation, the Insurance Distribution Directive, and Solvency II.

With over 20 years’ experience in the sector Irving is widely regarded as a leading practitioner in his field and is ranked in the latest edition of Legal 500.

Jonathan Newbold, partner and head of the Financial & Professional Risk team at Browne Jacobson, says: “We are delighted to welcome Jeremy as head of our Financial Services practice group. We have seen in recent years a wave of regulatory changes affecting the financial services sector. We are enhancing our expertise in this area in response to growing client demand.”

“Jeremy’s reputation in the market is second to none and his expertise in regulatory matters will help to bolster our exiting contentious and non-contentious offering to our UK and international financial services client base.”

The firm’s London office has seen significant growth since moving to 6 Bevis Marks in early 2015, driven by growing demand from its public and private sector client base and a series of high profile lateral hires including more recently commercial property partner Susan Voice, professional indemnity partner Ed Anderson and medical malpractice specialist Matthew Trinder.

Declan Cushley, joint head of the firm’s London office, says: “Jeremy is an excellent addition to what is already a formidable team. His arrival demonstrates our commitment to invest in our growing London office.”

Irving says: “I am delighted to be joining Browne Jacobson. There is a high demand from UK and international clients for financial services regulatory advice, especially where they are looking to access London markets. I was particularly impressed with the firm’s commitment to growing its financial services footprint. I am looking forward to helping the firm build on its already excellent credentials.”
