Connection Capital appoints Head of Funds

Connection Capital, a specialist private client investment business, has appointed a new Head of Funds, Lorna Robertson.

Lorna Robertson (pictured), joins from Invesco where she was responsible for managing relationships with investment and private banks and developing strategic partnerships. Her role covered a range of fund strategies including fixed income, equities, alternative assets, bespoke solutions and fund linked structured products.

Previously she was Head of Capital Market Sales at Raiffeisen Bank International, and a Director at Deutsche Bank specialising in Benelux and UK Structured Credit.

At Connection Capital, Lorna will take charge of the on-going development of its rapidly-growing alternative asset funds offering, which gives private investors access to the kinds of third party funds that are normally only open to institutional investors.

Connection Capital’s fund investment strategy targets top-performing alternative asset funds with the focus on smaller, non-mainstream funds, such as those targeting niche markets, emerging asset opportunities, and/or uncorrelated returns.

Fund investments to date include hedge funds, private equity liquidity funding, mezzanine debt, alternative lending, venture, small cap, property debt, distressed opportunities and third party commercial litigation funds.

Its fund offering sits alongside its private equity, private debt and commercial property arms, which enable private investors to self-select direct investments into these asset classes.

Claire Madden, Managing Partner at Connection Capital, says: “Specialist alternative funds provide an excellent opportunity for investors to target enhanced returns which are often less correlated with the main equity and bond markets. Niche management strategies can also improve portfolio diversification. Our clients’ appetite for these kind of funds continues to grow and, as a result, the funds business is going from strength to strength.”

“Appointing a new Head of Funds of Lorna’s calibre will ensure we maintain and build on the high quality and range of fund opportunities we offer to our clients to meet this rising demand. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team.”

Robertson says: “Connection Capital has an innovative and exciting business model, opening up to private investors and family offices the investment opportunities usually only available to institutional clients. I am looking forward to expanding the range and diversity of  the fund offering, ultimately to deliver a selection of top-class alternative fund investment opportunities for our clients to choose from.”
