Hermes makes Middle East distribution appointment

Hermes Investment Management has appointed Nigel Norman as Director, Middle East Distribution. Norman is a highly experienced investment professional who has spent more than two decades working with clients in the region. He will be responsible for developing the Hermes brand and relationships in the Middle East and will report into Paul Voûte, Head of EMEA Distribution.

Norman joins from Aberdeen Standard Investments, where he was Head of Middle East and Africa. During his time at Aberdeen, he was responsible for establishing and running the firm’s office in Abu Dhabi. Before joining Aberdeen, Nigel had been Head of Middle East and Africa for Morgan Grenfell Asset Management and Deutsche Asset Management.

The appointment is in line with Hermes’ broader strategic outlook and commercial expansion plans in the region. Since being acquired by Federated Investors in 2018, Hermes has continued to grow its global client base and the appointment reflects the firm’s plan to broaden distribution capabilities in the Middle East. The announcement follows news earlier this year that Hermes had opened offices in Germany and Denmark, creating a presence on the ground in continental Europe. Hermes has also appointed Carlos Capela to head up a new office in Spain, which is in the process of being registered.

Harriet Steel, Head of Business Development for Hermes Investment Management, says: “Hermes has a history of strong performance and as we continue to grow our global client base, the Middle East offers a hugely attractive market. Nigel has over two decades of experience in the region, where in previous roles he has established several offices and led the subsequent build out of significant franchises. His experience, coupled with our relationship with Federated, puts us in a strong position to expand and strengthen the Hermes business in this region.”
