Boutique law firm Kleinberg Kaplan has appointed Joshua M Kaplan as a partner in its Estate Planning and Administration Practice. He joins from Dechert.
With more than a decade of experience in private wealth matters, Kaplan advises clients on a broad range of issues, including estate planning and administration; estate, gift and GST tax planning; business succession planning; charitable giving; and life insurance.
Kaplan’s clients include hedge fund and private equity fund managers, for whom he provides guidance in connection with estate planning issues related to fund formation, ownership and disposition. He regularly advises institutional clients regarding fiduciary issues and corporate transactions. Mr. Kaplan also counsels fiduciaries on estate and trust administration, including collection of assets, preparation of probate documents and estate tax returns.
Kaplan has significant experience in cross-border estate planning. He advises non-US citizens regarding US transfer tax planning, the disposition of US assets owned by foreign estates, and related US federal and state tax reporting requirements.

Kaplan holds JD, magna cum laude, and LLM degrees from New York University School of Law. He received an undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
