Orrick adds leveraged finance adviser in London

Orrick has appointed leveraged finance and direct lending specialist Anthony Kay as a partner in London. Kay joins Orrick from Latham & Watkins.Kay joins an established finance team in London and will work alongside M&A and private equity partners James Connor and Daniel Wayte in growing the firm’s private equity practice. James and Dan moved to Orrick in 2018 from Simpson Thacher and Milbank respectively.

“Growing our private equity and direct lending practice in London is a strategic priority, and we are very excited to see this team of rising stars coming together. Anthony brings a valuable skillset, and we see terrific opportunities to collaborate, including with our direct lending practice, which is one of the most active in New York,” says Simon Willis, Orrick’s London Office Leader.

Kay brings a wealth of experience in complex cross-border finance matters. He acts for sponsors and their portfolio companies, credit funds, direct and alternative lenders and other financial institutions on financing matters generally, with a focus on acquisition, leveraged and private equity finance.

“Orrick has established a great team in London, and I’m excited by the opportunity to both collaborate with Dan and James to help grow Orrick’s private equity practice and work to further grow Orrick’s direct lending practice, as well as work closely with the firm’s tech, finance and energy and infrastructure teams in Europe, Asia and the United States,” says Anthony.

As many tech companies turn to private equity, rather than the public markets, we’re well-positioned to serve clients in this growing area. Orrick is the #1 venture capital law firm in Europe, according to PitchBook’s third quarter 2019 report – dominating the European market for 15 consecutive quarters. Globally, the firm ranks top 10 for private equity buyouts & exits by Mergermarket in Q3 2019 (by deal count).

Anthony’s arrival follows the addition of several hires in the firm’s London office over the past six months. Orrick added leading corporate advisor Ed Lukins from Cooley, structured finance lawyer Rick Hanson from Ropes & Gray, energy and infrastructure rising star Hannah Roscoe from Herbert Smith Freehills, and tax advisor Jonathan Rosen from Akin Gump.
