Bondstone hires CFO

Bondstone, a Portuguese private equity real estate investment and asset management firm, has hired António Dias as its chief financial officer. Dias brings more than a decade of experience in corporate finance, M&A and private equity as well as programmatic portfolio management and will support Bondstone’s ambitious investment plans.

Dias joins Bondstone, which launched in February, from MarginKey, a Portugal-based consulting firm focused on small and medium-sized enterprises, in which he was founding partner and CEO. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and the private equity industry, having previously served at a leading Portuguese private equity firm, Oxy Capital.

Dias obtained a degree in law from Lisbon University, a master’s in management from Nova SBE and also holds an MBA from Nova SBE and Católica Lisbon in partnership with Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management. During his career, Dias has served in various roles in corporate finance and in the private equity industry, namely as CFO at Bright Partners, as part of the investment team at 3i Group and as an associate at Millennium BCP bank, after starting his career at Garrigues, a prominent Iberian law firm.

Dias says: “As an executive who has worked with multiple fast-growing companies in the investment and private equity industry, I am excited by the challenge of joining Bondstone and helping the firm achieve its ambitious investment plans.

“The team is committed to Bondstone’s vision and has worked incredibly hard to become one of the most renowned and fast-growing real estate investment managers in Portugal”.

Paulo Loureiro, founder and CEO of Bondstone, says: “António’s appointment reflects the confidence we have in the company and the medium and long-term prospects for the Portuguese real estate market”.

With offices in Lisbon and Porto, Bondstone plans to deploy a total investment of EUR400 million by the end of 2021, by co-investing with prominent investors in value-add and opportunistic strategies in the commercial and residential sectors. The strategies will include development, refurbishment and repositioning projects.

Bondstone has a very strong advisory board, comprising CEO Paulo Loureiro, chairman Arnaud Khodara, the founder of Universtone, which is Bondstone’s financial backer, Francisco Perez, a partner at EverStream Capital Management, a global renewable energy infrastructure fund, Abdiel Santiago, who leads Panama’s USD1.4 billion sovereign wealth fund, Mark Taborsky, a former senior investment professional at Stanford, Harvard, PIMCO and BlackRock, and Patrick Swint, the founder and CEO of Knightsbridge Ventures, a private equity real estate platform.
