Circularity Capital invests in advanced PVB expert
Circularity Capital has continued to build its portfolio of European growth-stage businesses enabling the circular economy, by leading a growth funding round in Shark Solutions, a specialist in advanced recycled PVB products.
Circularity Capital’s investment will further enhance the development of Shark Solutions’ manufacturing infrastructure across Europe and the United States, while also accelerating the adoption of its PVB product range into adjacent end markets globally.
Traditional approaches to the recycling of end-of-life laminated glass (including windscreens and architectural glass) are unable to capture the highly valuable polymer interlayer (PVB) that improves performance under impact. Shark Solutions separates this PVB layer and transforms it into highly valuable, non-toxic, sustainable, recyclable and price-competitive materials for use in paints, coatings, adhesives and flooring products.
Shark Solutions manufactures tens of thousands of tonnes of material per year for leading industrial companies worldwide. This includes for use in a number of Cradle-to-Cradle certified products.
Circularity Capital’s investment in Shark Solutions is consistent with its hands-on approach of backing businesses that create value from a clearly-defined range of circular activities. Circularity Capital’s investment will see it play a key role in supporting the management team and accelerating its international roll-out plan. As such, Ian Nolan, partner at Circularity Capital, has joined the board.
Andrew Shannon, partner at Circularity Capital, says: “Shark Solutions is a great fit with our growing portfolio and our significant expertise with companies that create value from what are currently considered waste streams.
“Our investment in Shark Solutions is highly aligned with our focus of harnessing the circular economy to drive financial value, while also making profound environmental and societal impact.”
Jens Holmegaard, founder of Shark Solutions, adds: "Circularity Capital’s investment will help to support our market growth ambitions. In addition to allowing us to reach more customers, the funding will accelerate further product offerings, which will deliver even more value for our customers. We placed significant emphasis on partnering with an investor that brings more than just capital to the table – Circularity Capital’s specialist network and unparalleled insight in the circular economy was the perfect fit.”
Circularity Capital was established in 2015. The specialist private equity firm’s mission is to deliver value for investors by supporting SME growth and innovation in the circular economy.
