New World Capital Advisors adds two to Board

New World Capital Advisors (NWCA), a global special situations merchant banking and investment firm, has appointed Lena Tan and Rony Rached to its Board of Directors. The investment firm, which saw its group AUM surpass USD2.5 billion earlier this year, continues to strengthen its leadership team in line with future growth plans.

Tan is the Chairman of 7-Eleven Malaysia Sdn Bhd and director of 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd (KLSE: SEM) and Chairman of Singer Malaysia. She also serves as a Director at Berjaya Retail, Razer Fintech, Berjaya Fintech and Berjaya Credit. Prior to her formal appointment, Tan has supported NWCA founders, Adam Sadiq and Zeiad Idris, in an advisory capacity.

Rached recently stepped down as a Senior Partner at Vitol, the world’s largest privately held energy trading group, where he served for 14 years and expanded the business in the Middle East and Mediterranean region. He previously held positions at Société Générale (EPA: GLE) and BP (LON: BP). Rony was an early shareholder and advisor to NWCA.

Tan and Rached join a group of partners and advisors to the firm who together bring decades of experience and expertise from a variety of industries including energy, technology, real estate, FMCG, asset management, banking, and natural resources. Key figures include Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, former Chairman of Shell (LON: RDSA), Arno Kitts, former Managing Director of the institutional investment business at BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) and Tim Morgan-Wynne, former Director of Natural Resources at HSBC (LON: HSBA), as well as a number of leading merchant families and institutional investors.

In the last year, NWCA has made a number of strategic investments, including the launch of its GP programme by taking a stake in real estate investor The Valesco Group, which has successfully grown its AUM to EUR2 billion. NWCA also obtained regulatory approval to acquire a Swiss Asset Management licence. The firm will be acquiring further equity interests via strategic growth capital in the best performing and up and coming GP teams across private equity, infrastructure and private debt in Europe, the US and Asia.

Adam Sadiq, Co-founder and Managing Partner, says: “We are delighted to welcome Lena and Rony to the Board. As we prepare to bolster our asset management capabilities through GP acquisitions and scale into new geographies, it’s important that our senior team has a combination of strategic vision, forward thinking creativity and experience. Lena and Rony are highly respected executives with outstanding track records in driving growth at leading corporations across both developed and emerging markets.”

Co-founder and Managing Partner, Zeiad Idris, adds: “We are excited to formalise the appointments of Lena and Rony to the board, bringing their wide-ranging experience, from strategic planning to finance and business expansion. They will be a tremendous asset for our management team as we continue to build a market leading specialist investment firm.”
