Stephens, an independent and family-owned investment bank, has continued the expansion of its European capabilities with the addition of a highly experienced consumer sector professional Robert Horton.

Assuming the role of Managing Director, Consumer, Horton joins Stephens’ experienced and integrated consumer sector team based across the US and Europe. The hire further strengthens Stephens’ capabilities in European and transatlantic deal flow – which is expected to intensify during the remainder of 2020 and beyond.

Horton has extensive experience originating and executing national and cross-border M&A transactions, as well as advising entrepreneurs, family owners, private equity and corporate clients. His efforts in London will be supplemented by Stephens’ accomplished consumer team based in Little Rock and New York.

Founded in the US in 1933, privately-held Stephens established an investment banking presence across the Atlantic in 2014 – opening offices in London and Frankfurt. Stephens’ international corporate finance advisory business is led by an experienced team of professionals with expertise across many sectors, geographies and types of transactions.

The hire of Horton continues Stephens’ expansion in Europe, following the additions of Simon Tilley for European sponsor coverage and technology sector specialist Robin Brown late last year, as well as Michael Young in financial services in early 2020.Stephens team in Europe now consists of 40 bankers in total.

“Despite unprecedented global challenges this year, we remain committed to expanding our transatlantic proposition. We have made a number of experienced hires in Europe over the past 12 months and are extremely pleased to further strengthen our global consumer capability with the addition of Robert,” Brad Eichler, Executive Vice President and head of Stephens’ Investment Banking group, comments.

Horton adds: “I am excited to be joining such a reputable firm focused on advisory services, where clients benefit from deep sector expertise, as well as significant cross border capability. Stephens’ integrity, reputation for industry leading advice and its focus on long-term relationships is a compelling client proposition. I am looking forward to helping build our European practice and further strengthen our global consumer group activity.”

Horton joins from European consumer advisory firm Spayne Lindsay, where he was a Director.
