Allen & Overy adds to US private equity practice

Allen & Overy has appointed Nick Marchica as a partner in the firm’s US Private Equity (PE) group based in New York. Marchica’s deep experience advising PE and corporate clients on M&A transactions will complement Allen & Overy’s established practice advising leading PE funds and multinational corporations on US and cross-border transactions.

“Allen & Overy has been expanding its US PE practice since 2017, and the addition of Nick to our talented team augments our offerings across the full spectrum of strategic M&A,” says Tim house, US Senior Partner at A&O. “One of our key strategic priorities is to expand significantly our presence here in the US across all of our practices, enabling us to continue to serve our elite roster of clients on their most important initiatives. Nick’s arrival is another step toward that goal, and we expect to maintain that momentum and extend our reach.”

Bill Schwitter, Chair of A&O’s US PE practice, says: “The expansion of our US PE capability is a natural tie-in to the strength of our US Leveraged Finance practice and our international deal capabilities, which are foundational pillars of our growth strategy.

The PE market is one of the most active corners of today’s US corporate finance market. PE transactions reached record levels totalling USD507.3 billion across 3,577 deals in 2019, representing, respectively, a 15.7 per cent and 14.5 per cent increase from the same period in 2018. Despite the onset of the pandemic, the first quarter of 2020 kept pace with 2019 and saw an estimated 885 deals with a value of USD150.8 billion.

“Allen & Overy served as a home for me early in my career, and I am excited to return at a time when the private equity industry is set to continue breaking records on deal values and volume,” says Marchica. “In re-establishing myself at A&O, I will be surrounded by some of the world’s brightest attorneys and one of the most forward-looking law firms, focused on delivering the right resources to best serve our clients across all relevant markets.”

Marchica joins from Baker McKenzie, where he served as the Chair of the Transactional Practice Group in New York. He has substantial experience advising PE funds, family offices, strategic clients, and international conglomerates across the United States, Asia Pacific, and Europe in connection with significant private M&A, joint venture and other transactions. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and his Juris Doctor from Fordham University Law School, where he was also a member of Law Review.
