Humphreys Law promotes new Partner and Head of Tax

Corporate tax specialist Annette Beresford has stepped up to the role of Partner and Head of Tax at Humphreys Law.  Beresford joined Humphreys Law in 2018 where she served as a Senior Consultant advising on UK tax aspects of a broad range of M&A and other types of corporate transactions.

Prior to this she spent more than a decade working for major global law firms Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and also Reed Smith, where she worked at the time with HLaw Managing Partner Henry Humphreys. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT).

During her career Beresford has built up a considerable range of experience and expertise of a wide spectrum of taxation, including the tax aspects of corporate finance and M&A transactions (often with an international dimension), venture capital reliefs, employment taxes and many kinds of management incentive schemes.

Henry Humphreys, Managing Partner, comments: “Welcoming Annette to the partnership is a step forward for HLaw and its tax offering.  Annette has been of great service to the firm and its clients, and we will be all the stronger now that she is to focus exclusively on working for HLaw from within the partnership.  They say in business that you should hire people who are better and brighter than you and I can say that it’s a theory that very much applies in this case.  The HLaw tax and incentives team is already in a position with few peers indeed from amongst the small and boutique law firms; and with Annette leading on tax we will continue to grow from here.”

Beresford says: “I am delighted to be joining HLaw as a Partner and Head of Tax.  Having worked with the HLaw team for some time as a Senior Consultant, I know the firm’s excellent capabilities and client base. I very much look forward to being able to focus on HLaw full-time and assist the team with taking our practice to the next level.”
