Tola Capital appoints Venture Partner

Tola Capital, a venture capital firm that believes in the power of software and data to transform the way the world works, has appointed Phil Sorgen as a Venture Partner.

Sorgen will be part of the Tola investment team, serve on boards, and guide companies on their sales and growth strategies.

Sorgen has grown depth and breadth businesses at scale. Most recently, he was the Chief Revenue Officer for RingCentral, where he led the company’s global sales and partner organisation. Prior to this role he spent 24 years at Microsoft, most recently as a Corporate Vice President, leading Microsoft’s US Enterprise Commercial Group, an organisation responsible for helping the company’s largest commercial customers in the US navigate digital transformation. Previously, Sorgen held several leadership roles with Microsoft, which included leading the channel strategy for the worldwide partner network, running the Small and Mid-Market Solutions and Partners business, where he was responsible for sales, marketing and partner management, managing the Dynamics and Service Provider businesses across all customer segments, as well as serving as President of Microsoft Canada.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Phil as our first Venture Partner. He is a deep software expert and a seasoned business leader with a wealth of expertise in global enterprise sales and partnerships. He has already added immense value across the Tola portfolio as part of our Enterprise Leadership Council and in his Director role at our portfolio company, Glia. He is engaging and effective as a coach, and we’re excited to share his expertise more broadly with our founders,” says Sheila Gulati, Founder and Managing Director of Tola Capital.

Sorgen’s track record follows a customer-first mindset and repeat success at scaling sustainable growth businesses that are centred around customer and partner relationships.

“I’m excited to tap into my experience and network in the world of enterprise software and become a part of the highly collaborative and engaged team at Tola Capital. Working with founders is inspiring to me, and I’m looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and engaging with them within the Tola portfolio,” says Sorgen.
